The people who burn the brightest can burn out. Are you a high performer who is no longer performing at a high level? Instead of showing up at work at 6 or 7 a.m. after a good workout, are you showing up between 9 and 10 without having exercised? Do you feel filled with excuses that you don’t really believe?
High performers can get depressed, just like everyone else. And their depression can consume them and consume the lives of those around them, too. If you feel depressed, make an appointment with your doctor. You can’t outperform depression.
If you feel more stuck, however, than depressed, try reaching out to a mentor or coach. They can help you gain insight on your situation. You can speak to them without worrying about how it might impact your job or leadership status. They might be able to re-light your fire or help you recognize that your interests have changed and where those interests now lie.
If you’re dreading going into the office tomorrow, make a call.
